His storied career illustrates a tireless quest for truth, civic betterment, and a proponent for the people.

A Trailblazer in Journalism

From journalist to politician, Tomas Regalado’s path showcases his unwavering commitment to serving his community and driving positive change. Starting as the youngest reporter at WFAB, La Fabulosa, he swiftly rose to become the Latin American news editor at WCKT (now WSVN) by age twenty-one. Breaking barriers in 1983, he became the first Cuban American member of the White House Press Corps, reporting on historic presidential summits and engaging with world leaders.

Regalado’s extensive career includes covering conflicts in Africa, interviewing Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter, and advocating for human rights at the United Nations. In 2018, he assumed the role of Director of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting.  Regalado’s legacy is one of dedication to truth and justice in journalism and advocacy.

A Seasoned Leader in Public Office | Accomplished Mayor,

In 2009, Regalado transitioned into public service as Miami’s 42nd Mayor, showing his dedication to voters by voluntarily reducing his salary and pension for fiscal responsibility.

Throughout his terms, Regalado’s commitment to Miami’s residents was unwavering. His focus on practical issues like infrastructure maintenance, fiscal prudence, and environmental sustainability led to successful budget balancing and labor union negotiations during his tenure. 

Advancing initiatives in infrastructure, finance, and environmental conservation, he also stood up firmly to defend the city’s police force from budget cuts, acknowledging their vital role in ensuring city safety. 

Regalado’s leadership transcended local boundaries, earning him national recognition for his bold stance on issues such as sea-level rise. Prior to leaving office, he spearheaded a campaign for a sea-level rise bond, garnering overwhelming support from the community and leaving a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship.

Despite the demands of public office, he continued to excel in journalism maintaining his role as news director at the Spanish Broadcasting Systems while serving as a daily host and commentator on WWFE la Poderosa and as the host of a daily news program on the Cable Network TeleMiami.
